  Thanks for the update, Lee.

  I am familiar with physicians and scientists who have wrestled with the FDA over getting new drugs approved. The ones I know are actually complementary of the FDA saying that their questions and concerns raised valid points and in the end resulted in better products. Lets hope that is also true with any hemoglobin products that do finally make it to market.

  Hello everyone,

  I am old enough to be a grandparent (several times over), yet I just got a letter from my JW dad demanding to know why I am not doing anything in the “truth.” Further, he wants to know why I prefer to spend my time with “apostates” rather than “Jehovah’s people?”

  He is nearly the age of many GB members and he still treats me like a naughty little 10 year old. Come to think of it, his treatment of me is much like the GB’s treatment the R & F JW.

  Forgive the Governing Body

  i dont hate the governing body, nor the president.. not even rutherford.. after reading all that old dub material i came to believe all those old croakers running the org are just pathetic, brainwashed old men, trapped in their 60 years of organizational experience.. i feel sorry for the old fossils.. imagine all the life experience theyve missed out on.. imagine the disaapointment when they finally go up the tunnel of light into death and find out theyve been slaves to an entity that eats souls.. they just dont know any better.. i pity them.

  not hate them.. compassionate and forgiving aint i?.

  The arrogance of the GB is legendary. A few years ago, after much meditation on that issue, I realized that I shared some of their guilt because I had been a part of their system.

  Many, many years ago I had participated in a DFing of a man who had dared to disagree with the GB. This incident occurred in the pre 1975 period. One issue that bothered him was the GB’s conclusion that the year in which Adam was created marked the end of the 6th creative day (according to GB chronology). This year was important in marking the start of the 7th creative day, on all of which hinged the 1975 calculation.

  He said that those calculations did not take into consideration the creation of Eve. He wrote to the GB (read Society) about this issue and got a reply that it was their belief that her creation took place in a matter of weeks of months after Adams’ creation, not years (or words to that effect). This was in the days when the Society would still (sometimes) write directly to an individual.

  This gentleman had had other issues with the Society and had written many letters to them. Finally, the Society wrote the local BOE and in effect said “this guy has a bad attitude and you should do ‘something’ about it. We met with him, challenged him on an issue or two and he literally walked out in the middle of the meeting.

  In retrospect, I think he could see that we were a bunch of Jack Asses, and that he had no chance of reasoning with us at that time. The decision was made to DF him and the dastardly dead was done. It did not cause him a large load of pain, but it sure did effect his wife and cause her much suffering.

  A few years ago I called his house (he is still DF’d). The wife answered and I asked for him, but he was not at home. I proceeded to tell her why I was calling – to apologize to him for the awful way in which he was treated many years ago and to apologize for my personal involvement in that horrible act. She seemed dumbfounded. Later, I talked with him. He really did not hold harsh feelings about the matter. He said that he had forgiven me years ago, when I had shown him kindness at a funeral in his family. At that time he was standing off by himself and I went over to him and offered my condolences to this DF’d man. I didn’t know at that time that my gesture was so significant.

  The GB has not, it seems, known the joy of apologizing. Christ said that there was much joy in giving and he was correct. GB, it is so easy, once you do it. Try it, you will like it and you can do so much good for so many.

  Hello again,

  There are a number of good arguments on this thread. Most seem to give the GB more slack than I personally think is just. Such examples as that they are infected by or caught-up in the system, etc. are no excuse IMHO. Why? They willfully decide on or allow evil, murderous policies to stand:

  1. They ignore information that shows their position to be dead wrong. An example relates to their position years ago that eating blood was wrong and that transfusions were the same as eating blood. Their conclusion was based on extremely poor scholarship. When is was demonstrated to them that transfusion of blood was the same as an organ transplant and very different than eating blood, they stopped-up their ears and refused to change. The result: death to thousands of JWs.

  2. When their chronology was examined and found to be wrong and the data presented to them, what did they do? They found a way to DF the person who had done all of the scholarly work.

  3. When any doctrinal position is changed do they issue a directive clearly stating the change from xxx to yyy? No!

  4. They flat out lie. Many examples have been posted on this board. One lie that always screamed at me was their claim that elders were a shelter from storms that the Devil’s world sent our way. The experiences of many of us had been that elders were the source of many of those storms, not the shelter from them.

  5. Do they ever apologize for wrong decisions or inaccurate advice or information? No!

  I was raised by JW parents. From my earliest memories I had doubts, mostly because of their constant bragging. What really confirmed for me their inexcusable arrogance was their refusal to admit their errors surrounding the 1975 matter. It took them three years, I think, to bring up the issue and blame the “sheep” who they said had read too much into their words. A year or so later, because the numbers were still dropping, they admitted that they too were disappointed (about the 1975 matter).

  Time and again the GB demonstrate that they are small men. When their position crumbles they abandon it and start in a different direction and hope that everyone will forget the previous mess. Eighty years ago elders were elected by locals. That was replaced by an appointment arrangement that was hailed as far superior (it gave Brooklyn more control). In the early 1970s the appointments were replaced by a rotating elder arrangement with many of the first appointment decisions being made locally (with Brooklyn’s approval). By the mid 70s the previous arrangement was laughed at by COs and others. Soon after that more change came because the rotating elder system was a catastrophe. In all of this there never was an admission of poor management by the GB.

  Today we can witness yet another terrible crime against humanity being orchestrated by the GB. Silentlambs is heading-up the exposure of that issue.

  You guys are mighty generous to the GB. While I try to not hate them as persons, I certainly do hate much of what they have done. A few examples:

  1. They have caused the death of thousands through their murderous blood abstention policy
  2. As noted often on this board they have driven others to suicide
  3. They have convinced some, like my dad, to be loyal “society men” and as a result I have never had a normal father-son relationship with him. Today we can not talk at all about religion or other serious issues

  Most of you on this board are condemning the father who recently killed his daughter during an act of punishment. Some give him some slack because he may have been following what he perceived as his duty per the Watchtower. He killed just one under his care. The GB has been responsible for thousands of lives lost. They make that father in Chicago (if that is where it happened) look like an amateur.

  Only one GB member ever walked out and said “enough of this evil.” They are all murderers and the lowest possible scum.

  Your efforts are to be commended. My concern is with your writing style. It smacks of the WTS style. Many of us have unwittingly allowed their poor writing style to influence us, me included.

  Please allow me to illustrate.

  You begin with vague generalities. Many to whom your are writing are very busy men and women. Please get right to the point in the first paragraph rather than waiting until the third one to start stating what your letter is all about.

  Do not write out the rather long name of your organization in the first paragraph. Your name is on the letter head, so just say “we” and save your reader and yourself a lot of time and ink.

  You are not writing to talk about cults in general, so do not refer to “various recruiting cults.” This just blurs your message (WTS writers are great at blurring their text with lots of extraneous statements that have nothing to do with the theme of their topic).

  When you finally do get around to your subject you pontificate with this preface: “One such organization, and the most active in our community…” and finally you begin to state what your letter is about.

  I will not go on because you may not be interested in my opinions about your letter and that is certainly your prerogative. Others here may be much better trained as writers than I am. With spit and polish your efforts IMHO can achieve considerable success.

  No, Lisa, I am not kidding. My dad has been around the JWs MANY years. His grandmother claimed to be of the anointed. She lived in the Russell era. My dad is nearly 90 years old and remembers Rutherford giving speeches. I actually walked around with my dad as he played Rutherford’s records on the portable phonograph (yeah, I am really old too, just don’t rub it in).

  I have talked to my parents about blood more than vaccinations. Their minds are closed to any words that are not entirely supportive of what ever the WTS says. The flu shot thing is a carry-over from the old days. I think they secretly think the WTS was correct in the old days about this subject even though they say little about it currently.

  Does the WTS ever say positive things about vaccinations now, or are they silent on the subject?

  Just got my flu shot yesterday. MY JW parents would be horrified to know that I accept Vaccinations. To this day they refuse any immunizations, being the good old-time JWs that they are.

  How Do We Respond to the WTS on the UN?

  oh hello, just little old me.. i want to talk about and ask a question about the watchtower's "spin" in the un fiascao.. based on my review of the case, there are 2 "spins" that need to be "counterspinned".. these wts "spins" that deserve responses are:.

  1) the watchtower did not keep this un "association" a secret and the leaders were not hiding anything.. 2) the watchtower used this "association" to help promote its educational and voluntary work through out the world.

  we only considered the support of the un charter in help our brothers get their religious freedom.
